Missionary, Assemblies of God Moldova team

Her recent letter follows: Dear Family and Friends, I am writing this update to you from Iasi, Romania. This city, on the border of Moldova, is 600 years old, with beautiful cathedrals, old public buildings and brick roads. It also has an American run hotel with Mexican food and a Pizza Hut! It is the perfect place for team retreat. The Assemblies of God Moldova team is taking some time resting after a stressfulfew months, as well as meeting together to talk about team and individual strengths and evaluating our goals for the next few years. This time has been productive so far and we still have a few more meetings. Please pray for us as we look toward the future of our mission in Moldova.These past few months have been a busy time for me personally and our team as a whole. We hosted 12 interns for five weeks, began an English International Service twice a month and welcomed our first young women at the Home of Hope. I am excited to be a part of all of these projects. We are thinking about creating an internship program this coming summer for college-age students (let me know if you have someone who might be interested) and I will be an integral part of the planning and leading process. I have committed to the youth for International Service and am enjoying getting to know the young people. Also, the Home of Hope, a center for women who have been trafficked, will take a large portion of my time asI work with life skills, activities and training Moldovan volunteers. Please pray for all the women working and living in the home. And pray for me. This is an intense ministry. Human Trafficking is one of the darkest, most evil forces I have seen in this world and I have found myself on the front lines.  I need prayer now more than ever.Don’t forget to check my blog for updates, videos and photos:www.saratady.blogspot.com                                Love,

I Get to Serve Christ as a Missionary

I feel as if I've won the lottery.

I get to serve Christ in Moldova.

As I drove back from a small village this week, swerving around potholes and squinting through the fog, my mind fixated on how fortunate I am to serve in this country.  I detest the concept that I am sacrificing, but smile at the thought of being blessed.

Earlier that day, I chatted with an old married couple of 89 and 86 years of age.  My new friend fought in World War II, but on a different front.  I saw their tiny home, heard their stories and talked to them about Christ.

As we handed bags of groceries to the neediest in the village of Baraboi, I joked with people who had spent their entire life in that village.  I prayed with an old woman who still doesn't know Christ, but is concerned for her sick daughter.

MISSIVE — NOVEMBER 2009

 

I am in debt to my good friends and colleagues John and Glenda Harris for having sent me the book “The Waiting Father: Sermons on the Parables of Jesus” by Helmut Thielicke. I want to share a quote with you today, because it’s so pertinent to our spiritual well-being.  Thielicke says,

“The man who lets his day grow recklessly and blindly, that is, the man who does not begin his day by talking with God before he goes on to the thousands of words, written and oral, which he must speak to men, that man grows rotten, both physically and nervously.   And what has been called “executive’s disease,” the symptoms of which are ulcers and heart attacks, is often only a symptom of these deeper disorders in the soil of our life.”

How often has this happened in our own lives? In order to expedite the responsibilities of the day, we sometimes leave home without the most important aspect of our life, which is, of course, consulting with God about all those responsibilities and duties we have to perform in the course of the day. It is generally counterproductive, because we end up spending more time correcting errors we have made when we proceed without divine orders.
